Your Therapist in Sugar Land explains How to Improve Your Mental Health This Spring

Prioritizing your mental health might seem hard to do, but it is important! One in five people struggle with a mental illness according to the National Mental health Institute, so you are not alone.

It’s common to try to suppress negative feelings, thoughts, or emotions, but this can lead to unhealthy ways of coping with life.

Spring is the time of year when the world blooms. It’s a time of year when you can think about starting fresh– starting a new life. Revamping what’s not working for you and preparing yourself to enjoy and live the best summer.

Seek professional support if you need it, and know that it is normal to have periods of your life where you might need help to work through difficult and stressful times, and that is okay! If you struggle with depression, use the time this spring to breathe in new life to your routine.

Your Therapist in Sugar Land explains 5 other ways you can improve your mental health this spring…

  1.  Be gentle and optimistic with yourself. If you’re on a healing path, be gentle, patient, and optimistic. Never underestimate the power of sunshine, connection, and movement. Listen to your body and mind and what they need.

  2. Seek for wellness in all aspects of your life. Wellness stems from an integration of your mind and body within your environment. It means working through mind-body resilience, learning, growing, and enduring. Maintaining optimal health includes getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet, stress channeling, and getting physical activity in every day.

  3. Focus on self-compassion. Don’t forget to cut yourself some slack and to be inwardly understanding and encouraging this spring, even if there are setbacks. Research proves that self-compassion can help improve performance and professional growth, and that it directly correlates with high self-esteem. Be kind to yourself and you are more likely to succeed.

  4. Practice mindfulness. Spring clean your head by practicing mindfulness to help quiet your thoughts, relieve anxiety and relax your muscle tension. When you’re stressed it’s easy to focus on the present and/or your racing thoughts. Meditation might be hard to imagine. But take even 5 minutes out of your day to focus on deep breathing. This will help you have a more restful sleep at night as well.

  5. Don’t doubt the benefits of professional help and medication. Seeking professional help from a therapist or counselor can help you navigate your track to better mental health. Consider this and/or medication such as antidepressants and anti-anxiety if you cope with chronic mental health conditions. When you are able to find the best medication and treatment to manage your conditions, you will be able to feel more like yourself, have more energy, think more clearly, and even feel happier day-to-day.

One thing that makes SPC different from most clinics, is that you are always able to speak with your therapist on the phone. We don’t have a receptionist or make it complicated to get help quickly and efficiently.

We are happy to talk and meet to get a better feel for you and your personality, before diving into therapy sessions. Equally, it’s important for you to get to know us as well!

Personality-wise you want to match your therapist. Because if you don’t trust the person you are talking to, you won’t trust the plan.

There are many ways to find and afford the best therapy for you, and we are always here to help.

If you feel you suffer from anxiety or depression, or any other mental health conditions, give us a call or take our free online quizzes. Tell us a little bit about yourself and get 15% off your first visit.
